The Yo-Yo originated as a weapon in the Philippine Islands during the sixteenth century.

False - the earliest yo-yos can be traced back to 500BC, the Greeks made these toys out of wood, metal, or painted terra cotta.  The name yo-yo, however, is likely to be Filipino in origin; Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary states that it is probably derived from the northern Philippine Ilokano language word “yóyo”.
